I was given some coral today from a guy that's getting out of the hobby. I'm not sure what the coral has been through but it looks pretty bad. I dipped in coral rx pro then in furan 2. Is there anything else I should do?

The first coral looks to be a duncan, the second is a euphillia of some sort and i cant tell what the last one is. Duncans can take a while to open up and fully extend. They appear healthy, just a little ticked off at the moment. The euphillia shouldn't take quite as long, however it's showing a good bit of the skeleton under the polyps. Might need some healing time before it extends fully. You did good with the dips. I love coral rx pro. They just need some time to adjust to your tank.

Ok think you very much

They all look pretty rough to me.....they're gonna need to eat! If you generally keep low nutrient levels, now would be a nice time to ease up a little on that. If you already keep at least moderate nutrient levels, then it should be to their benefit! :)

Now that I'm on a computer, the duncans have a nice green color. When I moved mine to the tank they stayed closed like that for about a week, then gradually extended further and further. I have one colony that comes out over two inches from the skeleton and the other comes out about an inch. That euphillia looks rough tho. Those sharp blades are supposed to stay covered. The last one looks like it's holding hands with death =(

From the about of algae that was in the bags with them I'm guessing he didn't have low nutrients. I wonder if he even had the lights on. Im not sure I can save them. The Duncan looks a little better.

I guess this one has colored up some but I don't even know what it is.

Coloring up may or may not be a good sign, so keep babying them, assuming the worst for the time being. If the tank was rife with a nice crop of standard green hair algae (and not some dinoflagellate or bryopsis, etc) then that's a GREAT sign for the health of the tank where they came from.

There might be a question about the alkalinity spike (and pH spike) it would have encountered in the transition, if the original system had been allowed to drift below-normal in alkalinity.

In any event I don't think any of that would change your current course too much! This is coral rescue! :)

(Most of my corals were rescues....not the most glamorous selection :p, but it's an inexpensive way to start up a tank.)

That last one looks like a chalice now that I can see some color. Keep your lights low for a week or so as I see some tissue recession on the edges. It wont hurt whats in your tank to lower them for a little bit. What alk are you running? No clue what it's been thru but if you're on the lower side it'll help it heal a little quicker. Don't sacrifice the health of your tank and change anything... if they make it great, if not you tried to rescue them, but it's not on you for their demise.

I keep my alk between 8 and 8.5 I don't have dimmable lights. I'm running a 6 bulb t5. I have 4 blue + 1 purple + and 1 coral +. The light is 2 channels so I run the blues all day and run the other channel about 4 hours a day. I can run only blues for a little while

Keep the white channel at 4 hours and maybe turn the blues off 2 hours early, or on 2 hours late, for a week... give it a bit to adjust. After that I'd just go back to your normal schedule.

I have never had a chalice before so I'm not sure what all they need. I think it will be very pretty if it pulls through. I guess I need to research chalices

Thank y'all. I'm going to give the chalice to a friend because it still looks bad. I can't grow acans at all. So I'm not sure about the chalice. I can grow acro's and blasto's but not acans
