I’ve been wondering about the output of toxins in a reef tank either from corals, fish, invertebrates or others that could or would effect your tank. What some more common ones are and how to handle those situations.

Be careful with zoanthids and palys. They contain a very potent toxin that can affect more than just what's inside the tank.

Handling these with gentleness and care, including gloves, can help prevent unwanted releases of the toxin.

Good point. In my research thus far I have heard about zoanthids and palys. Thanks for your input.

I wouldn't drink the water, but as long as you're not cutting up zoas and licking your fingers you're fine.

As far as animals in the tank effecting others it seems to be soft corals, other than zoas, that actually engage in chemical warfare within the tank.

Yah, I don’t think I would go there.
