Coral Banded Shrimp safe or harassing?

Actually 4 but they are decapods, not a true shrimp as we generally think to be. You have the Regular (Stenopus hispidus), Yellow (Steponus cyanoscelis), Blue (Steponus tenuirostris), & Gold (Steponus zanzibaricus). ***Spelling might not be spot on...argh***

They are somewhat territorial and can kill and eat shrimp.

They can be kept with fishes and some will even clean fishes as the one I have tries to do. lol.

They can be kept with corals and other inverts. But they can and sometimes will pinch/tear up corals as well as anemones.

Some say they are reef safe but they are not really considered a good choice for any mixed or reef tanks. I recommend caution and observation as I have seen one of my old ones tear a skunk cleaner shrimp apart and eat it.

Don't ever keep two in a tank unless you bought a mated pair. The female will usually be the larger one.

With this said, I guess I lucked out with the one I have presently.

Hope this helped.

Actually, your conversation is very Interesting to read and very helpful. Thank u.

Had one years ago killed hippotang looked like he was sliced.very expensive lesson

I have a large coral banded shrimp in my reef tank with a mixture of cleaner, blood & sexy shrimp and they all get along. The coral banded may be too slow to catch the other shrimp..
