It's sad to say but it sounds like your LFS had you bring in water so they can blame it on something. The fish you bought could've been suffering before you bought it. It's no guarantee but ask to see the fish eat before you buy. Sorry about the loss. We've been lucky, all our dwarf Angel's ate right away. The acro comment they gave you seems shady as well.

Considering they are harvested using cyanide ....

That's a horrible practice. We have one place we buy our fish from and won't stray since we've had great success. It's a bummer when you find a good store then they close.
I am thinking about studying Marine biology to see if I can figure out breeding some highly sought after fish that cannot currently be bred. Our hobbies should not harm reefs in under developed countries that are unable to protect their reefs

Our hobby is a pin drop to damage done by other industries. Captive bred is great for the health of our fish or bringing down costs, cave basselets [emoji23].

Captive bred fish often handle captivity better and if managed properly, parasites could be eliminated in direct sales. As soon as they enter the LFS trade this benefit is lost though.

But the harm done by this hobby is kinda being used as a punching bag as garbage dumping, line fishing continue in these same areas. Harvesting may damage a single years growth of a colony. But a single line fishing ship can destroy an entire outcrop.

I love that we are working towards captive breeding on animals because of the second chance it buys us.
