Have had this coral beauty for about 2 months
All was well until today, visibly discolored staying hidden in the rocks coming out to swim for a minute and return right back. He’s usually very active swimming all around the tank. His head mouth area looks distressed. The first photo is with a lot of flash so it’s hard to see how discolored he really is the second should give a better idea of his state. All other stock is normal. The only thing I’ve been doing differently is running carbon. Which I removed immediately. Afraid this guy has a parasite. Help me out guys what am I dealing with here

Sorry you're dealing with this. Did you add anything wet to your tank recently?

Can you describe if he is displaying any strange behavior, lack or appetite, flashing, scraping, yawning excessively, spots, etc?

Do you have a hospital tank setup or have the means to do so?

strange behavior yes, he’s wedging himself in a rock hole for long periods of time. He did eat at feeding but I had to physically remove him from the rock (I thought the worst) but was ok. He is usually all over the tank feeding on lr algae almost endlessly. He currently doesn’t have any spots but he defiantly is visibly less vibrant. He comes out very shortly and returns right back to the spot for very long periods of time. He definitely has something going on around his head mouth area. I don’t currently have my Qt running but it can be up shortly

What are water parameters? I suggest you get that QT running first thing unfortunately you may need to use it. What other inhabitants do have in the aquarium? Have you noticed any aggression towards the angel? Also I didn't see if you added something new to the tank in your previous response.

Not a fish disease expert in any way, but wow.. that was sudden and severe!

Your carbon.. was it in a media bag or a reactor? If a reactor, was it compacted well so it's not grinding itself into a fine, fine powder? Basically, you don't want it to be tumbling or agitating much in the reactor.

Hey buddy, yes very severe. I use a aquaclear 110 hob occasionally to run carbon as it doesn’t have to tumble. I’m starting to think it’s from bad carbon quality. They are pre bagged fluval carbon packs. I’ve ran it in the past with no problem but never with a coral beauty. I read that poor quality carbon can be a cause with these guys. It is nowhere near pulverized And I’m not even certain it’s defiantly the carbon just the only thing I’ve done different since Acquiring him. I removed it as precaution.

I was just throwing out a guess honestly bc of how sudden the onset. I've heard bad carbon can be really rough on tangs. Best of luck. Hope it's not a disease and that he pulls through.
