Thus just died and wondering if this white spot was the cause. Do I have to do something wit the tank as far as treatment. The picnic shows the latest readings.

Looking at the dorsal fin of the fish it seems to be some sign of aggression. How long have you had the fish? Was someone bothering him? What are the current parameters of your tank and how is it configured?

How long has this tank been set up? Your nitrite should be 0. I would double check that reading.

The white spot also looks like missing scales, which typically would be from aggression or flashing. But if you found him dead it could also easily be CUC.

The parameters don't matter... you say you had him 2 weeks? Did you QT him? I'd suspect disease first.

It the nitrites are 5, then yes the parameters matter.

Nitrite doesn't matter in a marine tank. Though it does tell us that his nitrate might be wrong. Nitrite interferes with most nitrate tests, especially the cheap ones, so that reading should be astronomical if he's really got nitrite. Nitrite is not toxic to marine fish; Nitrate isn't toxic until the levels get much higher than this. I'd be more concerned what the readings were two weeks ago as, if he has nitrite now, then when the fish was added he may have not been cycled and it just took a few weeks for the fish to succumb to the ammonia burns.

That's exactly what I'm thinking as well, ammonia burn. That's why I'm asking how long the tank has been set up for.

I'm not assuming its not disease, it very well can be. The nitrite at 5 just caught my eye right away and makes me think the tank is still cycling. I also don't agree that nitrite isn't toxic to marine fish. Everything I've read says that nitrite is toxic to the fish, albeit not as bad as ammonia.

How long has this tank been set up? Your nitrite should be 0. I would double check that reading.

Tank has been set up for 3 months.

Something is probably wrong in your tank after the nitrites continue to appear after three months. You must explain well how your system is configured in order to help you, in the meantime not add new fish.

Could you retest the nitrites to just double check that number? Im assuming you meant 5.0 ppm nitrite, correct?

From that article - some delicate species have an LC50 of 100ppm. Most of the fear is confusion with freshwater where 1ppm nitrite can wipe a tank. Anyway the readings don't make sense. If 5ppm nitrite is present, it should be interfering with and compounding on the nitrate test. Also, if he's using a cheap API test kit he might be getting a false reading in the first place.
