I just had to catch my coral beauty because I caught him nipping my purple Sea fan, I've had him since my first I started my previous tank and have put up with his boisterous behaviour i.e. the odd chasing off my wrasse, watchman goby and royal gamma so I'm kind of in the mind to take him to my lfs for credit so the tank is peaceful and no risk to corals.

I imagine once he has the taste for it then it will only get worse, I never saw any damage but noticed the Sea fan polyps have not been out in the last few days but did not think much of it. (It's photosynthetic)

Yup you're in a bind. It's been my experience that once they start nipping, or tasting the behavior continues. I have had angels barely rarely nip at sps but once they did the coral seems to sense the angels presences and never show the same pe until the angel was removed.

Yeah it's a great shame because he's a real stunning example with a bright orange body and nice blue surrounding and also quite tame for me by coming up to the glass where I am and watching me or watching what I'm doing in the tank, but since I've put him in the sump, my royal gamma is out more, my watchman goby is braver without being scared back into his hole.

My lfs will give me credit tomorrow for him, such a shame I don't think I will bother with another angelfish in a reef tank again.

I am in the same boat. The only angel type I have had long term that did not nip on corals or clams is the Potter. You can try feeding more or different types of angel specific food. I love my coral beauty but I love sps more.

I already overfeed and he has plenty of nori :( maybe when my tank gets full of corals and the nipping can be spread out I'll try another one. But for now I'm liking how peaceful the tank :)

Well the cb is at the lfs and my tank seems happier, my yellow watchman goby is out more and not hiding and my royal gamma is out and about plus my peacock wrasse is not getting harassed, sadly as much as I like angelfish I won't have one again and I had him for so long too.
