Hi all, I have the Coral Box Mini Filter 80x and I was wondering if it could be used for GFO or carbon? I know it's designed for Bio Pellets, I used it with them for a period of time but I found my tank liked it when the nitrates were higher so I stopped using the reactor.
In my current tank I have fairly high phosphate (~0.5+). I already have carbon in a bag in the sump. Is it possible to run either of these in this reactor, and if so which one would be better?
Thanks

I don't see why you can't use GFO. The GFO needs to percolate to be effective and not clump up, as long as you can get the GFO to do that I don't see why not. You could probably run carbon but you'd have to dial it down so it doesn't tumble and create dust that would work it's way into the tank, I'd just stick with the bag.

Thanks. Will I need to add anything like sponges to it to make it safe for GFO/Carbon? I'm planning on replacing the pump with a DC controllable one so flow shouldn't be an issue.
Here's a pic of the reactor;

Looks like it tumbles at the bottom and the water spills out through the top like a waterfall. A sponge would help keep the GFO from spilling over the top, but it doesn't look like you'll be cranking it up that much for it to spill over. A DC pump is a good idea enabling you to control the flow much easier.
