If a branching sps coral (e.g., birdsnest) has a branch that grows straight toward a rock, and then rums into that rock (in very slow speed), will that branch encrust onto the impeding rock and start in a sense a new colony, or perhaps a new wing of the colony, from that spot? Xenia sort of does this, but that's soft. Obviously any encrusting sps does, but that's different.

The branch will flat itself against the rock, encrust a little and grow towards light....happens to me all the time against the glass

yes , that branch will encrust onto the new rock and continue to grow
