I have some pulsing Xenia in my tank that is starting to grow pretty rapidly. I know it can become almost pest like with the growing rate. I was wondering if their were any corals that I could surround it with that would help keep it in check on the rockscape? Would some kind of stinging lps do the trick?

Possibly kenyii tree which will do the same
Best is to cut at base and drop some in the sump

I have found the Xenia's like to grow up not down. So if you put them at the top of the rocks they don't spread as fast. Also I have found a good balance between BTA and Xenia, they seem to keep each other in check.

This is super helpful, thanks! I want to add a RBTA, but my concerns is is moving away from the spot next to the Xenia and stinging other corals as well as my tank is only 5 months old. What is your opinion on that? Thanks!

I’d try euphyllia, especially torches. Very pretty, very stingy, and stay in place. Galaxea is very aggressive as well, maybe that would do the trick?

The BTA could be okay in a 5 month old tank, how did you set it up? (Wet live rock, bacteria in a bottle, shrimp method?)

I have thought about galaxea because I have some in my nano tank. I may try that or a torch. I used wet live rock.

Wet live rock you should be okay for 5 months. Very good if you can get live rock from a friend’s sump just to make sure you have a variety of bacteria
