Hello guys
Anyone using Red sea coral pro salt ?
I am feeling have problem with this salt.
My SPS coral SNT some of them from bottom. Specialty on new sps, after couple weeks in my display tank, then they will start die from bottom, I took them out and dip with blue Coral RX. Then it stopped dying.
I really don't know why it happen.
My parameters
KH 8.2 to 9.2 I had GEO 618 calcium reactor, but my ALK drop .3 to . 5 everyday.
Cal 430
Meg 1350
Nitrate 2-5 ppm
Po4 .0 to . 02
Salinity 1025- 026
I changed water 10% every weekend.
Oh I have 250 net gallons.

Was your salt a recent switch? I have used it for a year with great results. I find keeping the tank at 80 degrees F really helps the coral growth with this salt

If you are not auto dosing and keeping up with water changes there is the chance of it spiking your alkalinity. Check the source water too.

It was just too weird a salt for me and I had odd results.

I started my tank on 3/2016 with reef crystal salt until 11/2016 then switch to red sea pro.
My temp around 76-77 F. Depend on the weather.
How much you ALK in the tank when you change new water. I feel alk swing with new water change.

If you are not auto dosing and keeping up with water changes there is the chance of it spiking your alkalinity. Check the source water too.

I am not auto dosing. Every 2 days I drip alk mix with RO water or use kalkwasser to get back alk.

Yes. That could be a problem. RSCP has very high Alk.

Are you also dosing calcium and magnesium ?
Kalk may be better for you because it is both calcium and alkalinity.

Never dose mag, because I put mag media into calcium reactor, not really dose calcium alone. Only dosing kalk.
I see RC salt high ALK too, but don't have problem before.

You have a calcium reactor?

Most salts have a slightly high alk compared to what we like to run, But redsea coral pro is one of the highest.

Yes, I have GEO 618 reactor, but cannot keep up my alk.
I check RC salt is 13 dkh after mix.

It's strange it's not keeping up. You may need to get a second test to confirm it or try to dial it in a bit.

Depending on how much and when you dose your kalwasser you could be swinging your ph and alkalinity.

I started run my calcium reactor almost a year.
You still using res sea pro salt ?

No. It was too unpredictable. Was never sure if it was me or the salt. But it easier to dump the salt.

Is there an online calculator to help refine your ex use?
I'm fine tuning my dosing right now in the reef calculator. There is no reactor there of course.

I'm not sure how many dkh the drip is vs the daily usage. I assume you need more drips.

And I started using instant ocean. It's silly cheap. And my dosing is finally starting to keep up as I changed from Esv to balling.

Ive used RSCPS for two years now without any issues. It is a bit higher alk, Ca, and Mg, but never a swing too high to cause problems. I think it comes down to what your keeping. If you have a lot of SPS its a great salt. Instant Ocean is decent but better mixed overnight. One great thing about RSCPS is I can mix it up and 20 minutes later its good to go. Most of the time its 20% every two weeks or if I'm feeling frisky its 10% a week.

Yes, from 20ml/minto 40ml/min , now is 50 ml per minute.

Oddly I have never had problems mixing IO or rscp and using it. Not sure why folks have probs with that.

Personally I'm still catching up because of new dosing but my alk is just under 8 and IO salt is 11 and I did 10g out of 60 yesterday.
