My reef tank (biocube 16) is about 7 weeks old at this time. I have a small clown fish and a pygmy angel in the tank along with 2 shrimp and an emerald crab. Over the last 2 days, one of my corals seems to be having a problem. The angelfish does, on occasion, peck at this particular coral. In the enclosed picture, does the coral look as if it is dead? And, if so, how do I go about getting rid of the dead part?

Likely stressed from nipping or chemistry as simple as salinity. Yank looks fairly new. What are your test readings?

Salinity is 1.024. My other 2 corals appear to be very happy. Weird!!

bump up salinity to 1.025=1.026.
If you get an opportunity next time you go to your LFS, have them test water sample for salinity to verify you have a correct reading

If the angle is pecking at that coral, it probably won't stop. You may need to re-home one of the two.

I was afraid of that. I may trade the angel in for another clown. I have my salinity at 1.025 according to my refractometer. We will see what happens. What do I do about the purple section of the coral. It was never that color. Is there a way to just take that part out and save the rest?
