Hi there parts of my seriatopora caliendrum are going white. Is this normal?

My ca is 460
Kh 7.6
Ph 7.8
Po 0.03
So that should be okay

Is it possible that it turns white because the lower part doesn't recieve enough light?

Looks like it’s bleaching to me.
Maybe too much light or swings in salinity or temp.
Should have some colour....it had colour when you got it?
What’s salinity, nitrate and temp?
Do you run an ATO, and what is the normal daily flux in temp.

Looks completely bleached to me. For whatever reason, it's not happy.

Could be SG, alk stability, too much light, etc.

salinity is 1.023
I have an auto top of so salinity should be stable
nitrate as mentioned around 10 temp is around 24 but the light is out now, so not the exact temp.

it looks greener in reality ut when I take pictures with the hqi on everything looks whiter than usual.
daily flux in temp, never really measured multiple times during the day, id say a couple degrees

whats sg?

And about the light

I run 1 hqi for 6h a day and 2 t5's for 8h a day. is that to much? t was recommended to me in a forum to use those times.
The light is about 38 cm over the water

That’s very low. I’d say that’s your issue. Slowly bring it up to 1.026. Keep an eye on your calcium because it’s very high for 1.023 salinity, it will be over 500 at a normal salinity.

is it maybe so low because I used at essentials pro? its my first time dosing. And how can I bring it up? Just mix some rodi water with salt that's about 1.027 and then mix it?

Add some saltwater every other day until your salinity is at 1.026. I usually add about a half gallon a day to correct my salinity if my skimmer goes crazy or something. That’s on a 40&90 gal.

okay I will also buy an icp test tomorrow to see how my water is. And ill ask the lfs if they can test my salinity. i only have an "ärometer" (In german) Its the thing that floats in the water.

Oh I see. Hydrometer in English. They aren’t as accurate as a refractometer. Try to get one of those if you can.

Okay I'll get one tomorrow, have to get some active coal anyway^^ Thank you so far for your help. I will write tomorrow what the salinity is.

SG= specific gravity. You noted you were at 1.023. If it were me, i'd let my system get there naturally by letting the tank evaporate which would get me to 1.025 and then adjust the topoff to the new level or add 1.025 saltwater to bring it back to the level in your return chamber you were at previously.

Up to you. More than one way to skin a cat.

Lights are fine and the height is fine. 35.8 salanity is fine. I would get a very good refractometer and calibrate it often with 35ppt fluid. Your po4 is .03? What are you using to test it?
I would cut the tops off and remount them in a place with less light until they heal and grow.

I use hanna checkers (the electronic ones)
The guy from the lfs also said that it mayb be because the loeer part of the Coral doesn't geg enough light because the top part casts a shadow. Could it be that aswell?

Because the bottom half seems to be struggling to survive. Once the inside or bottom of birdsnest dies off I find algae and other pest stuff lives in the center of the colony on the dead branches and can cause issues by irritating the healthy flesh above it.
