Hey Guys,

Bought a LPS coral yesterday. First picture shows how it looked like this morning. Now it looks like this. I’m afraid it’s dying or has died. Only new to this, any help would be much appreciated.

PS live in Sydney, so the time here is just before 6PM.

Let it rest it’s probably still stressed. Can take a day or two to full open. Would help to know the type of coral... typical care requirements for LPS are low to moderate lighting and flow.

What did it look like when you purchased it? Was it open?

looks like an acanthophyllia. No experience with them, but they swell up pretty big throughout the day.
+1

Acanthophyllia or meat coral. Looks to still be adjusting to your tank. Mine shrinks up at night(like your second pic), and swells up to look like your first pic about 2 hours after my lights start to ramp up.

What species is that. Tank params? Flow?
To be honest, not too sure what species, I'm pretty sure its LPS. Tank parameters seem fine, however did detect some slight ammonia. Maybe that's the cause.

Its an acanthophyllia. I'm sure it will be fine, after all you've only had it for a day, corals need time to acclimate to your tank. Leave it be and I'm sure it'll be happy as can be within a few days to a week

Acanthophyllia, not unhappy at all. Did you just feed? They have a massively cool feeding response and it looks like yours is trying to catch something. I would try to feed it some pellets, it doesn't seem very unhappy at all.
Good luck and God bless!
