Hello Reef2Reef, I would love to know how most of you prefer to feed your corals. I personally feed when lights go out, then turn off return pumps. I proceed with feeding, then turn off all other circulation pumps for about 20 min. I have asked around to see when the best time is to feed, seems like there isn't a best time, as every one seems to feed at different times and ways. I switched over to feeding at night after watching a reef documentary and learning that corals feed at night in the wild.

So how do you feed your corals? Respond below and vote on the poll.

Thanks everyone!

I don't have that many corals so I feed when just the actinics are on.

I feed the tank at night 20 mins after the lights go out but before that, 5 mins before the lights go out I dose a few drops of coral vitalizer to entice them to feed. 20 mins after, I give the tank a few squirts of roti feast and oyster feast. Of course the return pump is off and the circulation pump is at night mode by now since I am using vortices and they sync with the radians after going night mode. I usually feed my tank which is spa dominant 2-3x a week.

Sometime my lights are ON, sometime my lights are OFF, most of the time my pumps are ON.....it's when my fish poo is when they get fed! :D

I'd be interested in how folks feed their corals in deep tanks. I just set up a tank that is 24" deep and holy crap. It's like taking a bath every time. I know that I will be feeding less than I used to.

I dont usually feed my corals they get the left over rods food and every 2 weeks i dose prodibio reef booster and coral vits (which is basically amino acids and other vitamins for corals). When I do occasionally feed them, its when lights have been out for a couple hrs and pumps/skimmer off for 10 mins

Maybe twice a month and only I feed our Scolies and Duncan. We have all other Corals and I found out that these two are easier to feed. I just entice the Scolies with small amount of Brine and voila, mouths are opening.
I have no time waiting for the tentacles to come out when lights are all out, like the Favias.
Pump off and lights on.

I target feed with a turkey baster. I never bother with turning off pumps or lights. I just do it when I think about it which is usually once or twice a week.

Thank you everyone for your replies, and techniques of feeding coral. I wanted to see whats the most common way of feeding. By the looks of it, everyone seems to have their own unique way. I say stick with what works for you!

lol I totally know where your coming from, most that have this situation i think feed by broadcasting food into the water and not target feed each individual coral, unless only the few corals need to be direct fed, like scolys, sun corals, and such.

Not only deep tanks, but imagine big tanks loaded with corals. I mean you might be there for hours trying to feed every individual coral one by one.
