It'll be a little while before I can do it, but here's the question.

I don't feel that I would be comfortable with a nem around my corals, so I'm considering a coral to act as a substitute host. Is there anything wrong with this? I'm thinkin a torch, maybe...what kind do you guys think would work well? My clowns are a young pair of Ocellaris.

Mine have used star polyps, anathelia, a toadstool leather, duncans, torch and frogspawn.

I had clowns hosting a frogspawn for a wile not a good idea they just made it mad and it didnt grow for a long time

your best bet if you dont want a nem is to get them hosting a plastic plant or coral they are dumb and wont even care

Careful with a welso. I have seen pics of them eating clowns that got too close.

I like to use hammer corals as an anemone substitute. I go after the more rare/unique ones rather than the standard "drab green-brown" color. I got a nice Aussie Lemon Lime one from Cherry Corals.

One thing I would like to add is that the clowns are ultimately going to choose what is going to host. Some clowns will never be hosted by an anemone or coral.

Well...they've been trying very hard to host my heater XD I'm just hoping to get them something a little more suitable. I'll get something I like so I'll be happy with it even if they don't take to it.

Is there something wrong with them? Or is it the aesthetics you don't like?

I just don't think fake coral or anemones should be mixed in with a real reef. If it's a fowlr maybe but even then it's tacky

My clown irritated a frog spawn and a torch to the point they both died :( it would suck on the tips like it was cleaning it or something, and would bring food to them trying to get them to eat.

I have three nems and a pair of clowns in my tank. They have been in the same tank for a year and the clowns STILL host the frogspawn....arghhhhhh
