Could someone help me ID this coral? And where should it be placed in the tank? Thanks

Sorry to say but that looks like a dead piece of coral to me. They only part that looks like it might be alive in this picture is the branch on the left. However it looks more like algae than polyps. Where did you get it?

I was scared that might be the case.. It was actually given to me for free from someone I was buying a couple other frags from so i figured i might as well give it a try

Well at least it was free. Try and take a better and closer picture and maybe we can find some life there.
 
Very bad Montipora Digitata if that is what it is. If you can save, high light and flow. I've seen nice colonies with less than that.
