I am getting married in September at Sandals in Jamaica. Has anybody snorkeled or dived around Montego Bay? Are there any good reefs that are a must see? Silly question, but is it possible to bring coral back to the US, harvested or purchased from there?

Chances are its illegal. Also, not sure on how often you've been snorkeling and/or scuba diving. If you are new to it especially Scuba, the last thing you should be doing is collecting.

Congrats on your marriage!

Spent honeymoon right around there. Beautiful - snorkeling wasn't a big impact or super awesome

Had a hard time even being in the water due to all the peddlers and jet ski people

You would need a collectors license/permit. I have no idea what you need to move coral across the border.

Worrying about collecting, holding, and transporting coral is not what you want to be doing on your wedding/honeymoon.

Very true with all the responses...We are both very much into the reef aquarium hobby. She has done pretty well with her tank setup a couple months ago. I have kept my mouth shut and my hands out of her tank. I guess collection/harvesting is the wrong choice of words. I would think there are reef stores in Jamaica. I was just thinking frags may be cheaper that what I can find in the Midwest. If I found some, purchased on our way back to the US, I might find unique pieces for a lower price and not pay for overnight shipping.

No fish stores from what I saw and in a lot of parts no electricity - we didn't get to go over to Kingston tho so not sure how that side of the island is set up.

Im getting married in 2 weeks and will be going to a Sandals resort in Jamaica. Pretty excited about it I never have taken a trip like this.

Which one are you going to? We are doing it at Montego Bay. You'll have to let me know how it was!
