I am not happy with the coral growth in my 150g tank, mostly a LPS tank, have a lot of Blasto's, zoas & polys, acans, a few chalices and favias thrown in there. I am getting some zoa & poly growth in my tank, some are doing a lot better than others, for that matter, everything seems to have some growth, not a lot but some, in general, all of my corals look plump and happy.

I am running a Reef Octopus skimmer, I think rated up to a 200g maybe a 250g tank ( I am wondering if this skimmer is doing to good of a job and part of my perceived problem ) I do a water change in my tank every other week of around 17g I don't have a lot of fish in my tank, a Choris Wrasse, Marine Betta, 2 Hooded Wrasses (the female turned male so now have two males) Bi Colored Fox Face, a pair of Black Ice Clowns, like I said not a lot of fish. I am running GFO in a reactor,, I have really been cutting back on changing the media out, thinking that maybe part of my problem. I am running AI Hydra's over my tank, 3 of them. I would say I have them running kinda low, at least low when it comes to the settings of the white LEDs.

I am feeding my tank once a week with Fauna Marin LPS pellets, corals really react positively to these feedings. How I am using them, I turn off all of the power heads, turn off the return pump, I take a pinch of the pellets in my fingers and kinda hold them over the coral, let some water into my fingers and kinda crush them over the corals and let the mixture drop onto the corals, I do all the corals this way, everything. I let the tank be after these feeding a while before I turn the power heads and return pump back on.

I guess the coral that concerns me most is my JF Jack O Lantern, it really looks good in my tank, I have it in a low flow, low light area of my tank, it is growing extremely slow, I am getting new growth though, its millimeters though and taking a long time to get that. I am thinking I should be getting way better growth out of this coral than what I am getting. There are people selling this coral all over the place,, someone must be getting very good coral growth :) Not that I want to sell frags of my Jack O Lantern, my tank is a Roach Motel, corals check in, they don't check out :) I kinda feel if I can get this coral to do better, it can only be a good thing for the rest of the corals in my tank when it comes to reproducing.

I am thinking the skimmer plus the low fish count in my tank, Just not enough food in the tank for the corals. Enough fish poop plus the weekly Fauna Marin LPS food to keep them looking good,, just not enough to promote good coral growth. I should be getting more than millimeter growth out of the Jack O Lantern.

Any Ideas that might help me :)

It depends on what your perimeters are. Jack o lantern for me is a very fast grower. But if you have low nutrient levels like nitrates less than 10. And if less than 5 if your alk level is greater than 8.5. They may be hungry. Maybe try upping feeding to a few days a week. I do all pumps off for 20 minutes. Some people who have an over sized skimmer for lps. Put it on a timer or remove any filter socks a few days.

I feed my acans coral frenzy 1mm pellets every other day. They are growing fast, lots of babies. I don't crush the pellets, I drop them directly in each polyp. The pumps are off for 10 minutes until pellets are consumed. The fish eat any leftovers after I turn pumps back on. In my opinion lps polyps are large for a reason, they eat more/larger food.

I don't use gfo anymore and believe that lps don't like super clean water.
