Hello, everyone. Can someone ID this coral for me? I thought favia, but some sites say there are only 2 types and as they are no longer collected, they are rarely found in the hobby. He never really puffs up like my acan did.

Thanks for that input, encrustingacro. Can you tell me what the identifying characteristics are, or differences with favia? Thank you!
Favia don't occur in the hobby, as they are endemic to the West-Atlantic. Many Merulinids, such as Dipsastraea, are misidentified as Favia as it used to include Indo-Pacific species. However, following genetic study, all Indo-Pacific Favia species were found to be unrelated to the type species of the genus, and most of them were moved to Dipsastraea. There are other genera that the hobby lumps in with "Favia" that have never been Favia, but this is mainly because of oversimplification.

That is good to know. Now let's see if I can remember Dipsastraea!

Favia used to be a very large genus of coral. Scientists did reclassication and now there's only two species in the genus, neither of which are available as they are under the carribean bans. Hobby never cared to update the names due to complexity and because the care is still exactly the same.
Looks like dipsastraea like @encrustingacro said. Yours looks like it's grown well so just keep doing what your doing :)
