Hi guys, went to LFS and they had just got this in-store was told its a green leather finger. But looks a bit different to what I thought was a leather finger. Or obviously not a specialist on them.

Or is it just that. A leather finger? Size of a small hand. Looks great in the tank. 20210128_152037.jpg

Leather corals can change shape from day to day depending on flow, light and other general goings on in the tank. ......it’s what they do.

Looking on trusty google it appears to be more a devils leather finger. But definitely opens right up when lights are on.. not a fan of the moonlight.

My leathers only stay open in white lighting. I guess it’s just how they are. Devils hands are one of the more finicky leathers, so it may be a while before it is consistently opened and colorful. It took months before mine even began to show polyps.

It could also be a thick finger. The two are similar, but a defining feature for devils hands is the long fingers. Of course, it is young, so may be easier to determine as it matures.

Devil’s hand leather and one of the larger leather coral

Looks like my devil's hand leather. Very moody, but really cool when it's open.
They require decent water flow. They will skin over and mope if not happy
I blow mine off occasionally with turkey baster and they respond well

Yes definitely changed shape after about 2 hours in the tank. Was a very bright green too and had these stony looking polyps protruding

Yeah it's been in the tank for a few years now. I do blow off the dead tissue from time to time at night, but I haven't been doing it lately. I think it's a little irritated by some clove polyps that have grown up far enough to tickle it.

Thanks for the info guys didnt know how much they could change. Learning new things every day. Wife has told me to stop for a couple weeks on buying corals now.

Definitely not a devils hand then. Something in the lobophytum category, but the fingers branch too much to be a devils hand IMO
