Bought this as an assorted coral, no idea what it is. Unfortunately it has not opened up yet. Might give it a few more days if nothing, I'll try moving it up in the tank. tmp_1487-20170325_101012239315801.jpg

Green Star Polyps/GSP/Briareum.

What does it look like in regular daylights? (purple mat is GSP most likely)
How long have you had it?
Was it at a LFS where you could see it opened, or did you get it online sight unseen?

Ive had corals that I ordered online not open for quite some time depending on what they were. Sometimes 8-10 days.....

I would personally not move it up the tank... id keep it out on its own. Gsp can be invasive

I was thinking that but I have GSP. It is different like stalks are higher more tightly spaced much deeper purple. Yes only had it one day most opened up within the next cycle. Unfortunately did not see it opened up. tmp_1487-20170325_1026331862127460.jpg

There are different types of Briareum, the purple mat can be indicative of GSP. Briareum can stay closed for extended periods especially if detritus or algae collects on the mat or flow is not ideal. Not my images of Briareum.

I bet it grew dense and taller because of the cut or isolation. Cool I'll add it to the other gsp I got, trying to make a tree looking coral. Thanks for the replies.

Definitely looks like a green star polyps. Mine took three days to open all the way and was still shy sometimes. Now it stays open all the time when the lights are on
