What type of coral do I have? And what do i feed it?

It is a toadstool leather. Normally does not require special feeding, it will get what it needs from fish poop. What else do you have in the tank?

The leathers are mostly photosynthetic, so your coral will get what it needs from light. If you remain fishless for a long time, you might want to add some phytoplankton once in a while, or something else for filter feeders, but I wouldn't do that now because it will just add food for algae to your tank.

I going to add a clown fish first then more later on. Thanks

they are very tough too.

Yes. And if you want more of these just use a scissors and cut off a thumb-sized piece and rubber band it to a piece of rock.

Do know that these can get very large. Mine got to be the size of a basketball when I decided to sell it back to a LFS.

Depends on your lighting and how stable you keep the water parameters. If you have the right lighting spectrum and intensity, and you keep the parameters very stable they can grow fairly quickly.

Jm don't worry about it much they do all kinds of weird stuff. They are big baby's actually they close up with the slightest move. Sometimes they will shed their skin . I think they are slightly toxic & make sure it hasn't died don't want it falling apart in the tank. how long have you had it? Look s fine in the pic you provided .

I just got it over the weekend but wasnt sure what it was and how to take care of it. Thanks guys

They are fairly easy to keep, but can be temperamental at times. Just make sure to have some flow over it on occasion so if/when it decides to shed it can do so more easily. Otherwise you may have to assist it with a turkey baster.

From time to time they will close up for a few days. As long as it still looks leathery it’s okay it just growing and shedding. Will come out bigger than before.
