Purpleish brown yeah palys is what the guy said at the store i got thwm from but he didnt seem sure it was basicaly like scrap stuff

I have not
People have gotten really sick, deathly ill from scraping and cleaning around palys. Palytoxin is one of the deadliest chemicals on earth. Don’t be scared. Many people keep these and it’s rare but it’s worth a read.

Zoas and palys can be hard to tell apart sometimes. Usually palys have larger lashes but sometimes zoas do too. The all brown ones that have bigger lashes seem to be the trouble ones. As far as I know, I’ve never heard of zoa poisoning. Most corals have a defense mechanism to fight off other corals. Palys have palytoxin. When they get bothered or disturbed, they can release into the water. Whole families have gotten poisoned. You really should google it and read some of the stories. Usually the articles are poorly written however. The authors just blame all corals in general for having palytoxin which is false.

no, only palythoa, not zoantids.

generally palys are larger than zoas. but that's my simple generalization. there are a few articles floating around that do a much better job at describing the differences and what to look for.

all that said, you really have to try hard to get yourself in trouble.
just don't go scraping them off and getting juice in your face or boiling them and getting fumes in the house.
