I'm hoping someone can ID this for me so I can give proper care. I got it as a gift, where should the placement be? flow? feeding? thank you for your time.

Looks like green star polyps that has closed up. it should start extending its polyps once acclimated to your tank. Very easy to keep and really does not need to be fed.
