Coral/Invert QT tank questions

Hi folks,

I'm working on my first reef tank and already have a couple fish in QT following the best practices I've learned here...

Now, i'm turning my attention for a coral & invert QT tank & have a question about lighting: I guess the best way to phrase it is "can inverts get too much light?". I was hoping to setup a small, compact tank but am worried that the proper lighting for coral would possibly be too much for the inverts.

Also - is it safe to assume that i'd need sand, rock etc to ensure the inverts have something resembling their environment? Or, would a frag tank like setup work too?

I say no but I don't have any facts just personal experience. All my inverts come out of frag tanks with high power lighting.

Mine had sand but the tanks they came out of had black painted bare. Used liverock pieces and fake caves for a shrimp shelter
