20190210_142134.jpg 20190210_142140.jpg Hello from Md. My name is Justin Im new to this forum. Got a Biocube 32 LED with the built in timer with 3 channels. Its a new tank set up with sand and man made rock due to lack of availability. Have 2 clowns and some turbo snails. Levels are good along with the water and salt mixture. Im getting some brown algae build up which I know can happen in newer tanks. Seems to be reacting with the lighting in the tank. Looking to see if anyone has any suggestions on a schedule for lighting. Forgot to mention I have the built in power head along with 2 smaller add on ones.

Your tank is 100% normal for a new tank. Expect some green hair algae and/or cyano next. Don't stress about it!

If you are using the stock lighting, I wouldn't go for more than 8 hours of total light time. Have the blues come on an hour before and shut off an hour after the whites. The moon LEDs can stay on to your schedule.

Eventually, you're going to want to upgrade the lighting. Not because the stock is bad per se, but because you will fall trap to this hobby and the never ending upgrade. When that happens, feel free to give me a shout and I'll share how I upgraded my Cube.

What did you do to upgrade

I took the top off, added in a sump with a refugium, upgraded the lighting to LED and made it fully integrated with Amazon Alexa. "Alexa turn on kill flow" and all flow stops for feeding time! I also set up an automatic water change system.

I'm in the process of setting up a 40g reef, which will be part of the same system as the BioCube and a 10g frag tank for an overall 120 gallon system. The separate tanks will allow me to keep otherwise incapable fish and will allow me to stock slightly more than recommended in each tank because the bioload won't be too much for the overall system (although I still have to be mindful of space constraints).
