I'm fairly new to the hobby and I've been wondering how everyone mounts their corals. I know that most people use putty or glue but I also hear people talking about how they move their corals, for things like fragging. I was wondering how it is possible to mount corals and be able to take them out of the tank to frag, or move them if they are unhappy with their current location. Thanks!

Welcome to reef2reef!!!
What type of rock do you have ? Some have holes where it’s easy to put frag plugs in to see if your coral likes where it is

Welcome to the site and the hobby. I use a combination of nothing or superglue. If its zoas, i just put the plug in a hole or break off the base of the plug and glue in on. This way, when the zoas grow out, i can pull the plug and sell the rock, repeat.

Other corals vary and for my slower growing ones, i just glue and move on.

If I'm gluing to rockwork I use a combination of Super Glue Gel and JB Waterweld. I first put some super glue on the bottom of the plug, then put a wad of the WaterWeld, then more superglue and place it on the rockwork. This holds very well.

Glue with putty to rockwork or predrill rock and acquire plastic rods which secure rocks effectively into the holes
