The coral in the upper left hand corner is looking great.

Now after I did my first water change it looks like it's dead ? Any idea what it is?
FYI water change was done with RO water mixed for 24hrs, same temp everything. All my other corals look ok. I add Kent purple tech and Kent Calcium and thats it.

The singularia is the one i believe you are talking about. It doesnt look dead to me, was the salinity, and the ph of the new water the same?

That's a finger leather? They do that from time to time... give it a few days and it'll be back & quite probably bigger

The salinity in the tank was 1.025 and I belive the salinity of my mix was 1.027 and ph was the same. Do you think it's shock?

maybe, but like Stl said, they do that from time to time... i wouldnt worry unless you see dark colored spots / areas.

A finger leather was one of my first corals and the first time it did this it freaked me out. That was about five years ago... it's gigantic now and has two clown fish hosting it. It still closes like that from time to time, but always comes back bigger.

They're very tough corals, I would recommend trying not to worry about it! ;)

Man I was worried, all my test are perfect. I just don't know much about corals. I don't know where sps, lps, soft corals need to be placed in a tank. I'm doing lots of research ect. Thanks for all the information.

umm that salinity if your mix water is way to high to use as water change water... generally you want water change water to be right around 1.021 that way it does not raise the salanity higher. havning the change water that high will raise your base salanty even higher than it was prior to the change.

also adding purple up and calcium together is askign for trouble as both of those are calcium supplements and if you are not testing calcium you risk over dosing calcium and having it perciptate out of solution

yes now higher than it was prior to water change... if you keep doing water changes like that eventualy it will be even higher slowly going up with each water change at that salinity. i would recommend doing water chagnes with water mixed at 1.021-023 you will not raise your salinity this way. suprised no one else said anythign about the water change water....

Well I will try to remember that next time. I just bought this setup 3weeks ago, been out of reeftanks for about 8yrs. Alot has changed, Thanks for the advice Alex.

but calibrating to 0 is at the complete other end of the scale we are measuring our tanks out. thats why i calibrate mine to a higher scale.
