Hi all

I am using a coral nutrition program (Red Sea coral nutrition a and b). I have noticed that the corals, particularly my elegance is really fleshing out more and my small red Goni frag is showing nice extensions and growing more heads. However my trachy seems to be creating a clear mucus and swelling up which could be unrelated to the nutrition or possibly as a reaction to the additives?
Do people think these sort of programs are worth the money for lps systems? are there better methods out there?
Has anyone had negative effects?

The only negative affects from feeding is when to much is fed and algae breaks out. Some corals slime during feeding. From you other thread the trachy looked plump and healthy. I'm a believer in feeding coral, little goes a long way.

I also use the Red Sea Reef Energy A and B. It creates a similar coral reaction as the old Thiel Aqua Tech Liquid Gold from a decade ago...corals open up more with greater polyp extension. I too have a nice collection of LPS. But, I find that I only need 25% of the recommended dose to keep everything happy. I think many of the coral nutrition programs recommend doses that are too high which can cause deterioration in water quality.

Interesting, thanks I will trial halving my dose initially and see what if any difference that makes. And likewise if no deterioration (particularly to my Goni) I will halve again. Thanks for the advise.

The results from such a product will vary from tank to tank. In a frag tank, where there is likely to be few fish, and few feedings, such a product may be beneficial. In a well stocked reef tank with lots of fish, and lots of feeding, these products may not be very beneficial. There are also vitamin and AA supplements that are easier on the wallet. Like SeaChem Reef Plus.

I use red sea energy in conjunction with coral gumbo, reef roids, and mysis for my mixed reef. my livestock shows a feeding response for all three!
