I think we take the temperature that corals thrive in, and are basically native to for granted. I haven't really thought about this until researching upon Australian Scolymia metabolism and optimal water temperature and how temperature on the low 80s or even high 70s can really affect them in adhesion dysfunction meaning that the zooxanthellae detached and are expelled from the coral, causing the coral to bleach and die. I think it's important you know or at least try to figure out and understand where your pieces come from because everywhere is different and a piece from Australia may be used to different temperatures than Indonesia or the South Pacific so keep that in mind. Especially in the summertime where some of us may not be able to keep our tanks as cool as 76-78F/24-26C and or keep them stable that affects the corals. I would just keep it in mind for those who keep their tanks in higher temperatures including myself may be a solution to any receding tissue, bleaching, etc. So I thought it was interesting and sure helps a lot for those aren't aware of the optimal temperature for coral. I'm sure someone will state give a whole scientific statement on this to back me up. Reason I read about scolys is because I picked up my first one and don't want to take anything for granted. Always want to provide the best water parameters I can.

One difficulty in a mixed reef and our tiny boxes of water is temperature effects other parameters.
