Do you guys remove a fish that pecks at your corals or just leave him do whot he does as long as don't do damage ! Does it effect corals long term?

This depends on the severity of the nipping and how many corals are involved.

Say you own one brain coral. And thats the only coral your angel fish has decided to nip. Which do you want more the angel or the brain coral? Really comes to the personal preference of the reefer.

that said, if one buys a raccoon butterfly, and 99% of people’s experience on the forum are, “it eats corals”. Placing it in a reef and hoping you get the 1% might be a little above wishful thinking.

But to if it effects it long term will down to size of the coral and how often it nips. A one inch frag can only handle a few exploratory nips, as opposed to a 9” colony:

I remove any fish or inverts that I see bother the coral more than usual. for instance, I was so excited to get my first cleaner shrimp until I got him and all he did was dance on top of my corals and make them close up multiple times a day. I also don't keep any gobies or sand sifting fish that can and will spit sand all over my bottom dwelling corals.

then I got a neon dottyback that nip the crap out of my gonioporas, got rid of them quick!

Got a moorish idol that pecks at the only 2 corals in tank as new setup, it just pecks at my big elegance coral every 10-15 minutes
