Coral problem.

Need more eyes on this....
#reefsquad Will this work or what test do we need?
From what I heard back from 3 different product reps, this will not work in salt water. The rep. from "Hach" said they do have a model that will work in saltwater, but is over $200. I'm not going there. LOL

eeww. Never mind.
FWIW GFO will take it out and WC as well as long as the source is reduced.

Yeah, definitely not worth it.

So.....did the friendly neighborhood ups driver come a knocking today?

My new test kits were delivered yesterday and I just finished up running them. (I still have an oxy and iron test coming) I would have to say, It seems like the test should be pretty accurate. I get like a chemist! That being said, if I did them right, it doesn't look good. Let me know were I stand and what should I do. Should I retest anything?

Nitrate - 40 to 50
Phosphate - 2
KH/Alkalinity 12.1/4.3
Copper - 0
PH - 7.4
Calcium -240
Mag - 1290
Salinity - 1.024

Can my phosphates be that high? I think I should at least retest that. I never had that checked.
Id retest all the weird ones. Po4, ph, etc.
The ph is the oddest.
And from those tests Id get ready for some big water changes to correct.

Just wondering if there is somthing dead some were on the tank that you can't see which is cause you No3 to keep going up after you W/C? I see it as you have one fish in ur tank and after your w/c your levels are going right back up. Just a thought

Definitely double check the ones that are way out there. Add your alkalinity to the retest list as well. It's not very common to see a 12+dkh with a low ph...especially that low.

Based purely on the initial results, I'd say ph is the biggest problem. Now we just need to figure out why. Your new oxygen test might shed some light when it arrives.

You could also test your source water, as well as your new saltwater to kind if get a baseline of where you kh and ph should be.

It looks like the salifert po4 test maxes out at 2. If your initial results are correct, your phosphate could actually be considerably higher. If so, @nl5882 deserves a pat on the back. Po4 was not an initial concern of mine.

I'll see if I can find high range dilution instructions for you.

Found on Marine Depot...simpler than I thought.

"Higher Sensitivity
Should you require an even higher sensitivity then double the water sample and the reagents. The scale should then be divided by 2."

I'll retest tomorrow using my new test kits and my old kits from API and compare. I'll try to be extra carful with counting drops and such.

I have last a few smaller fish in the past and never found them.

How many people are in your family? Have you ever tested you ph before this problem? Po4 is still a big concern for me, i wouldnt even care about the PH to much. Po4 is probably leaching from sand and live ock. Just as I have come to find out with my tank. The pH is a weird one, a long with high KH, but I don't believe in testing PH with test kits. I rely on my apex primary, and a Hanna PH pen for backup.

I'm wondering g if your not using your titration syringes corrctly, upload a pic with 1.0 ml of water in the syringe like you wereally doing a test.

People in my family? I will keep testing untill I feel I have good results and maybe compare to the LFS for their test.
I am still thinking I should replace my live rocks which are noe dead, im sure. I have 0 little creatures in my tank like I first had.
When my tank crashed, I had close to 30 Anenomies and the all died un a day ir so. They were all attached to rhe rocks as they turned black.
I had to tack all the rocks out and wipe of the dead. About a month later I started to get tho gray stuff on my substrate snd rocks. It took some time to get rid of thst and I again had to wash off the rocks. The gray stuff washed off snd has not been back.
But safer as the live rock, it could be the problem now. Not sure.

The more people in the house makes your PH go down. No reason to replace live rock, maybe look into Dr tim's bacteria maybe that could help.

We have 3 most of the time. 4 when our son is home form college.
