Can't figure out what this is, sometimes it gets larger and sometimes smaller. It does not appear anywhere else in tank. This coral is at very top on tank and has been in same spot with same lighting for over a year. Tank size is 265 gal. All parameters are with range

I thought that also, but everything I read says it's in the sand bed. How do I get ride of it? Thank you for your quick response
It can form anywhere. Quite often it’ll build up on rotting stuff. I’d blow it off or siphon it. See if there is a build up of hunk on that spot.
If it’s easy to get out , do it in a container of tank water.

+1 definately cyano bacteria. It will sometimes pop up on my return plumbing, on rocks in places with low flow. Agree with salty, siphon it off and blow off that coral at the base.

Thank you, I'll give it a try. Only problem is coral is attached to 50 lb. Piece of dry coral if you look at this picture it's on the very top. Is there any danger in this making the fish sick?

I will try! Thanks again

Don’t pull the rock out! You could suck the cyano out with a turkey baster or airline tubing. The just blow the rock off where the cyano was with the turkey baster.
