I'm about to set up a 24" x 24" x 12"(H) rimless tank as a coral QT/frag tank. It is 30g, but I'm not 100% convinced I need the full depth and have contemplated running it more shallow for better water penetration. I'm trying to figure out what lighting to use though. I don't feel like spending a ton and would like to keep that cost <$250. That gives me a couple options and I was hoping for some input.

Because I will likely not be keeping corals at the very edges of this tank and will sort of treat it like a coral island in the center, a single LED like an AI Prime would likely be an option. I was also considering just get a T5 setup (24" with 2 or 4 bulbs?). I suspect the AI Prime would prove to be the more cost effective long term. With the shallow depth (between 8 and 12" depending on what I decide to do with water level and "aquascaping") would both of these be viable options even for SPS?

Thanks for the help

I would recommend the AI Prime HD. It should be plenty of light for SPS especially if it's sort time QT.

Thanks. Even found an open box at premium aquatics that says the lens protector was never even removed.
