Coral QT Transfer Time Frame

Hey all,

I've been running an invert QT for 2 months now and have some time left. I wan't to move everything into a new QT tank I have cycling in my basement. How long do I need to wait before transferring all my coral to this new QT?

I know the normal is to wait a few months before adding coral to your DT. Does the same rule apply if adding coral to a new QT tank?

If you have a known concentration of ammonia, you can dose about 0.25 ppm ammonia in to your new QT tank. If it can convert all 0.25 ppm ammonia to nitrite to nitrate in 24 hours your QT should be good to go. If you have a lot of things you are moving over, you may want to make sure your QT is converting atleast 0.5 ppm ammonia before putting a lot of things at once in to your QT. Pretty much the more you want to put in to QT at once, the higher the number you want converted in 24 hours.

Your QT is ready when you know you have enough bacteria. Running this test well help you determine that.
