@Humblefish , he is a good one to get in on this.

I am doing the same thing right now and following his lead. Tank, light...what type depending on what corals, pump, sand, hob filter of some sort. Possibly a skimmer down the road a bit. If it is a QT keep it fish less.

Below is a pic of my 29 gal "fishless" frag tank. I place all corals/inverts in here for 76 days before they go into my DT. Just cheap T5 lighting, Koralia powerhead, HOB powerfilter, heater, rock/sand and a frag rack gets the job done. ;)

Do I keep the carbon in while I'm treating with copper ??

No. Don't keep carbon in your FISH QT. It will begin to pull the copper out and you won't get accurate tastings. Accuracy is very important when testing copper as not to overdose.

Never use copper in any tank with any type of invert, coral, anemone...basically anything that isn't a fish.

^^Just to add... The only time it is appropriate to use carbon in a FISH QT is if no meds are present in the water or you are wanting to use carbon to remove meds. For a CORAL/INVERT QT you can run carbon 24/7 as no meds should ever be present in their water anyway. ;)

I just caution to only use premium high grade carbon. The cheap stuff causes more problems than it's worth (i.e. HLLE). Running carbon is always optional BTW. It's only useful for water clarity purposes, to remove odors from the water and also to remove toxins/medications.

@Humblefish, unless you have in another spot, can you list a couple high grade types of carbon?

im sure humble will have some great suggestions, but the only carbon I use/have used is the Vertex ROX 0.8
its available from a few sources and also "repacked/rebranded" by some suppliers(BRS).

+1 ROX 0.8 is all I've ever used for at least as long as BRS has been selling it. Great stuff; minimal dust and I've never had a fish get HLLE since I've been using it. :)
