Hi all !

well finally bought my first coral... Not sure we made a good move as our regular guy was not at the store and I trusted the other one as I did the usual.... ;o\

We bought a very nice Elegance coral.... from what I have read since we got home- not the best move I think..... But so far so good.... He is in quarantine and doing quite well. Opening up more and more. We were wondering how long we keep it in the quarantine tank for ???

and opinions seems quite different on feeding... does it need to be target fed small pieces of food or not ?

we are planning on putting it on the sand in our DT - he has a nice spot far enough from the live rock I think.

would appreciate any advice on these corals as I think it was not the best to start with - but we want to do well by it !

Also bought our first Wrasse ! very nice fish ! A Lubbock'd fairy Wrasse ! nice fish ! on the down side - I did not realize that Wrasses are jumpers so I tried to buy some stuff to make a screened top - but can't find plastic siding to make the frame... ;o\ I stayed away from Blennies and Gobies for that reason - we did not have our top yet ! now will do something temporary so we don't have an accident !

thanks in advance !

Isabelle

I dont QT coral. I usually dip them good check for pests and dip again if needed. Then in the DT they go.

I like to QT corals for at least two-four weeks. This gives you time to ensure the coral is healthy and free from most nasties.

OK well I did quarantine this one.... I read some dip them anyways ???

also I was wondering - they say to acclimate the Elegance to lighting - how do we do this ? I tried not to put light for too long at a time - although in my QT the lighting is that great so I guess it shouldn't matter... for that reason though - I wonder if I should simply dip it and put it in the DT.... don't want it to suffer from not enough lights !!!!

it does open up pretty good when the lights are on. and looks even nicer after feeding. But when I open the lights - doesn't look very good ! it is pretty closed up... is that normal ?

thanks in advance !

I think what they meant was that oc your plans are to put out high up in the tank to start off on the bottom first to get him use to your lights

well move the coral to the DT - he is happy !!!!!! all open and much more colours then in QT !!!!

thanks all ! also got a nice little orange mushroom - it is nice to have more colours in the tank now ! up to 6 fishes and 2 corals !

Where's the pics? :)

OK hope this works !!!! he was actually not quite as open when I took the picture ! I just fed the fishes and I think he got a few brine shrimps and did not want to let go ! not sure he ate them but ! also put a pic of the mushroom I picked up !

Beautiful looking elegance and its great to see your peppermints out. I never see mine :(

The elegance looks great. I love them. Mine closes up real tight at night when the lights go out.

Nice looking elegance, I have thought about one for my tank but don't think I would be able to get it far enough away from the rock. Still thinking about it though.
