I was reading in Reef Hobbist Mag to quaratine your corals for 12 hrs in interceptor and then do a 10 min. dip(CoralRX). Is this the best way to keep unwanted pest out of my tank? Where do you get interceptor? If not, what does everyone else do, how do you quaratine your corals?

I do a 3 stage dip process with my incoming corals. Each stage the coral gets an inspection for nasties as well as the dip solution. I do not use interceptor, just Flatworm Exit, Coralife Reef Dip, and Revive.

I believe interceptor is an Rx med that you'll have to get through a vet. I'll have to double check. Not 100% sure. I'm a rookie at reef keeping but my brother in law is a vet and I've heard him mention this before. I'm setting up QT this week not to sure on methods but interested to hear other hobbyists procedure for corals.

Interceptor is a heartworm medication for dogs. You need to get it from a veterinarian, normally with a Rx. A pill for dogs weighing 51-100lbs. The first time I got interceptor I printed up some literature relative to its uses as a coral dip(ie: for redbugs) and brought it with me to the vet and they had no problem giving it to me. Like $15 a pill.

Do you quarantine or just dip 3 times?

Interceptor is not effective as a dip, as it requires several hours and multiple treatments to kill red bugs.
There are many techniques for QT'ing corals. A good practice is to cut mariculture and aquaculture corals free from their bases, if possible.
Depending on the coral, we use different methods; most everything gets a dip in Revive, and a careful inspection for signs of AEFW or nudis.
Many also use the homebrew Bayer insecticide dip

I was just at my vets for the dogs annual checkup and was informed that Interceptor will probably be off the market soon. The facility that produces it is shut down due to FDA problems.
