Coral question

Well let's be realistic... Let's say some one has been keeping coral for about 3 years... They tried some different species. Some perished within six months others are still there from two years ago. How would they know if certain coral species are good for their tank or not?

Research the requirements of those species. If you have the right conditions and the skill level then there shouldn't be a problem.

10 years is more than realistic. Theres something wrong with the tank if it only lasted 6 months.

If you can only keep a coral alive for 6 months then something is wrong and you need to figure out what it is. I have corals right now that are about ten years old. My youngest are only a few weeks old and I fully intend to keep them alive as long as it is with in my power to do so.

Wow such attitude... I have corals in my tank that u bought when I first started the hobby. My tank isn't ten years old but wanted to know if there were people out there who have kept coral long term and how long. Not comments about how something's wrong with my tank because I may have lost corals in the past don't get it twisted and don't deny you lost corals either because you know you have.

It didn't look like they were bashing you, don't get to sensitive remember interpreting something written on the internet is always different what people are trying to say. Anyhow I think long term is maybe three years but also depends on what species.

You asked OP. You're the one that threw out losing stuff in six months. These animals should pretty much live indefinitely. So like I said if they die in six months its due to a problem. I have a couple colonies that are close to ten years old and many others that I've had for several years. I just had one die a couple weeks ago that I've had for two years. And I know it died because of what I did.

Did I miss something but I say coral has a span of how long u have the tank and keep it alive lol .

That why I said I plan on keeping my new corals alive as long as I'm able. So unless I die or become crippled, I'm going to make sure they keep on living. Lol

The short answer is, coral will live indefinitely as long as the proper invironment is maintained. We all know how easy it is to slip up and lose them though.

I just killed one from turning it around. Literally just rotated it 180° and it bleached within a few days. It was huge too.
