Hey all, I have a 90g tank
2 clowns
2 Bangai cardinals
1 yellow tank
10 turbo snails
3 hermits
2 fire shrimp
1 chocolate chip star

I am wanting to add coral, the LFS showed me these two and said they were good hardy corals for beginners. I want to research before throwing them in. What are these, what are lighting requirements, any risk from other inhabitants and any other info the experienced folks would like to give on this.

Zoanthids and torch coral you deff cant keep that starfish with any corals it will eat them but as long as you have the right lighting flow and you test ur parameters and everythings inline ur good to go

+1 That starfish will eat corals.

Anyway to prevent starfish from eating corals? Probably a dumb question but thought I would ask.

Both of these corals are sitting on a white square base. If I get them, what is that, how do I deal with it, LFS said just leave it.

It's a frag plug. You can just leave the coral on it. The corals will eventually grow over it and you wont be able to see it anymore.

No that particular star fish is a coral eater. Star fish do the best when introduced to an established system, some need algae to graze on other bio-film or supplementary feedings of meaty sea food.

Fromia milleporella, is a nice algae grazer if you leave some algae to grow within the aquarium, they do better in an established tank.

Serpents are a curiosity, they do well in your average system, grow large quick and are great scavengers. The Green and the Banded have a reputation of occasionally becoming fish eaters when they get large, and they may steal food from large polyp corals.
