I picked up a zoa yesterday and just wanted to know where do I place him at my sandbed or top of my rocks

+1 to all above. You'll want to put them on the sand as its the best place to acclimate them to the light. And its easier to move it around if it seems it doesn't like the flow where you put it. sometimes it takes a little while before the coral gets happy in the tank with light and change in chemistry and flow. sometimes it the next day. so keep an eye on it and once its happy then you can pretty much move it where you want it.
