Coral Questions from an Inquisitive Idiot

Putting aside oddities like Sun corals, I have a couple questions about corals.

1: What is the most important spectrum when it comes to coral lighting? For example why do we stress blue or white, but never the lesser ones like Red?

2: How do corals multiply, more pointed do they broadcast spawn like oysters? I know they grow bigger, but if that was their main way, we would just have gradients of corals

1. That's a complicated question. I'm linking the spectrum graph from sb reeflights, but the general answer is that there are more photosyntheticly active wavelengths in the blue spectrum than in the red, but not exclusively:

2. Yes, corals broadcast spawn, usually timed to lunar cycles. Search "barrier reef coral spawning" and you can find a bunch of videos of these. One of the major event was in October (if memory serves)...

The reason for more blue is because red gets filtered out first in the sea. So most corals have adapted to blue spectrum.
