Im posting this in LPS because ive heard they are typically easier then SPS and this will be my first tank with corals. Which brings me to the point that because ive never had corals im not sure which ones id enjoy having in my tank. Any recommendations for my first corals?

yes they are easier you can start with mushrooms, polyps, zoanthids, favias, sinolarias, colt coral
I start with these
you can choose what you like but be careful polyps and mushrooms growth rate is very quick and can full your tank be cautious to use them I read some posts that mushrooms growth killed some corals
just be careful and you can also buy some green star polyps they are beautiful but like mushrooms, a high growth rate

Everything everyone said is good. Pulsing Xenia is pretty cool in a small 5g tank. It will take it over though so you’d proably just have that in there.

a zoa garden is a great, colorful coral that comes in a lot of sizes, colors, patterns, and can be low or high end. Sexy shrimp pair great with them!

+1 zoa garden! They come in so many colors and sizes, just pay attention to growth rate. Don’t want your tank getting enveloped by one kind— I personally love King Midas and Rainbow Incinerator zoas! The Midas stay small and cover rock nicely, and the rainbows have beautiful coloration :)
