We were talking about this in another thread and it came up this might be a good spinoff so here it goes (hopefully I do it justice)

Recently I came across a great series of videos from BRS on softies, LPS, and SPS (forget the episode numbers but it was in the 30s) while searching for info on specific types of corals while working on a potential stocking list for the mixed reef I am planning. I watched them each two or three times and took notes on form factors and sweepers/aggression levels, etc. Then I started going through a number of online stores trying to look for certain types or form factors.

What I found was there wasn't great information on form factors or compatibility. So I tried searching some forums and ended up with results about flow and PAR levels which have been pretty well documented. Some of the info I found says don't put abc with xyz but then I see that's exactly what most reefers do and they are much closer together than a sweepers length.

1.Are there good resources or rules of thumb (I have a love-hate relationship with these but they can be good jumping off points) to compatibility? LPS w/ SPS, Zoas/mushrooms in SPS, and the list goes on!

With all the different fun names many of these tiny frags have it can be difficult to determine form factor as it grows unless you are familiar with what a larger version is or there are details in description (which often there is not). Easier to determine with plating and encrusting types but not so with others.

2. Are there any resources for identifying form factors of some of the popular types (bushy, table, branching, etc.)?

I am sure much of this comes with experience.
