I have been wondering how large our corals get in the ocean. For instance, my torches and hammers may seem large in my tank, but what is their true native size?
Thoughts?

Here’s a wild hammer:

I've seen monti caps easily 8' across, brain corals that must have weighed tons, and a single anemone the had to be at least 9 0r 10' across and hosted hundreds of clowns. I've been trying to find the picture of my dive buddy in front of the nem, but can't find it.

Absolutely massive, is the answer (: they also pretty much don't have a life span. Individual polyps do (and it varies from a month-100+ years) but colonies are pretty much immortal.

I’ve seen maze brain corals in Thailand the size of a VW bug!
