I'm wanting to build a custom rockscrape and i want to kind of plan out the placement of everything before I build anything. It's going to be predominantly softies and LPS. Obviously a zoa is going to need less space than a Torch, so I know it depends, but as a general rule, if I space the frag plug holes 6" from center to center, would that be enough space?

Here's two pictures of what I am wanting to somewhat replicate and the rockscape I'm planning to somewhat replicate. I want a colorful tank that is loaded with coral and colors.

I don't suppose anyone here is experienced in this and would want to really nerd out on this? Ideally, I'd like to draw out exactly what I want to build and which corals will go where and really have a solid plan nailed down

When you talk about softies - zoas, xenias, clavularia, mushrooms, leathers - these are corals that spread across from where they are placed.

LPS depending on the type may grow outward flat, outward all around, or upward.

And it also depends on what scale you are talking about. To build a spaced scape in a small 15g cube which is going to limit not only the number of corals you have, but how much they can grow, is going to be different than trying to plan a spaced scape for 200g tank.

And if you don't have a tank you are upgrading from, where you know the inventory that needs a home, then a lot of your planning is hopeful. You just never know what you are going to find when you are ready to fill a tank with coral. You might come across something different than you had planned.

Build a rockscape that you like the shape and structure of. Then as you fill the tank with livestock space them according to the manner in which they grow/spread.

It's a 36 gallon tank that I am redoing the rockscape in. It's roughly 30 inches wide and 12 inches deep. The corals I have in mind that I'm thinking about spacing for are like candy canes, euphyllias, acans, favia, duncans.
