Coral Spawning Event

My son took this picture earlier today over the Grenadines. A little research showed it to look very similar to other spawning events. Great to know there is still this much activity going on in the Caribbean reefs.

It’s sargassum - floating seaweed.
That's what I thought until my son pulled up an article entitled "Aerial coral slick spotting". Without being there on the water it's hard to say which one it might be.

It's 100% sargasum. I live in the Caribbean and I see the same just looking out my window at the ocean and it'll be all over the beach the next day. I would be cool to see a coral spawning slick like that, but Caribbean reefs are not that big to produce that much plus their declining state.

Sad but true about their declining state.
