My lfs has a massive one in there DT
I'll grab some pic tomorrow of it
By all accounts they are not allowed to be collected from the wild no more , not sure how true this is
A single head frag goes for 100 + in my lfs and they have only put one up for sale in the last 6 months which sold within the hour
Lucky I'm good friends with the owner.......the next one available has my name on it

Wow I didn't think about changes that may have happened with the fox coral market since indo got shut down. I wonder if they're still on stock lists available to us as they used to be pretty commonly on there before.

I'd definitely like to see a pic when you get it.

That's an awesome colony. I like how silky white they can be. Very unique coral, but like you said, slow growers.

Just stumbled upon this thread!! It sounds like fox coral is back on the market, I recently ordered one off of POTO’s live sale for $30 so I was hunting for info about these guys. Looks like a stunning piece!! I’m glad I grabbed it while I could! Got it coming in next week so I’m glad it’s not very aggressive or anything, I always worry about the prettiest corals cause usually they’re evil! If anybody else has a fox coral, I think this thread could use some more pics!!

I used to see them all the time in the late 90's and early 2000's. They kind of got left behind once the color craze hit since what you see is what you get. They all look basically the same other than some having more green in them. It could also be a collecting location issue. The places where they are plentiful may be shut down now so the current collection stations may not have many to choose from. They may have also suffered from the fall out of the elegance disease and got lumped in with them since they resemble them just without tentacles.

My LFS said the market was banned from selling for the past couple of years. They have a massive one in their display tank. This past couple of months they had two small ones! They said the market was allowed to sell them again. I asked for one for Christmas gift and got it. So thrilled.

I have seen them here and there over the last several years, just not in the quantities before the sps and torch crazes hit. If they were banned they were still getting in because these were wild caught. Now your LFS could be talking about the Indo ban which would be true. I didn't see any wild specimens during that time, it wasn't worth the risk. They would rather risk it on the high dollar items like torches.

Do people spot-feed their fox corals? I've just tried to spot-feed mine, and it doesn't seem like it liked that too much. It's done quite well catching whatever it has in the water column (or off of my broken lighting) for the past year.

I feed mine at night when most of my corals are wanting to be fed. Small pellets, chopped mysis etc seem to work fine.
