Difficulty Level: Sympodium is a very tolerant but slow growing soft coral.

Feeding: Small filter foods will often be accepted though this species is primarily photosynthetic and shouldn’t need additional feeding.

Lighting (Level 2 to 8): Sympodium is extremely adaptive to lighting conditions and will grow in fairly low to higher lighting environments.

Water Flow: Higher flow is usually prefered for these corals though they will also live and grow under lower flow conditions.

Placement: Sympodium should be placed on the rocks where it has ample room to expand and grow across them. They are not aggressive, so take care when picking neighbors.

General: Sympodium is a very interesting soft coral due to its slow growth maintaining the rarity of the species. They are very easy to grow, but extremely slow to reward with growth

Nice! Always liked this coral, but have yet to add one. Nice to hear more about its adaptability to light.

the sympodium was one of the first corals i added, not knowing anything about it. it hasn't really grown much, then i put a torch coral way too close and i think it stung the sympodium, but since then it has recovered nicely and seems to be doing well in decently high light and i have it right under a powerhead flowing above it. really pretty, i wouldn't be upset if it grew a bit, but please no xenia levels of infestation

Thanks again

I got this coral at LFS for $10 a piece, without knowing what it is.

Does this look like sympodium? I have been watching it at the LFS for several months and love the color but never see any PE. It was labeled as ECC Sympodium, and assume it’s right but just not open…?
